On behalf of the
Council and the citizens of Nanaimo, I would like to extend you a warm
invitation to visit our beautiful harbour city.
Nanaimo is among British Columbia’s most livable cities, having a
favourable balance of lifestyle, employment and investment opportunities.
Strategically located on the East Coast of Vancouver Island, 111 km
north of Victoria, Nanaimo is the regional service centre for mid and
north Vancouver Island. This
growing community enjoys a skilled and educated labour force, an
impressive infrastructure network and many nearby recreational and
cultural amenities.
Nanaimo enjoys its reputation as a home for inventive, creative and
artistic personalities. They contribute to the character of our harbourside community
and the unique lifestyle some call “Island Living”. Explore the natural highlights and scenic beauty of our
mountain and oceanside setting or some of the finer qualities of our urban
amenities.
Nanaimo is a high quality transportation and distribution hub for central
Vancouver Island. The city
offers rail service, a local airport with transportation to Vancouver
International Airport, a deep-water seaport, 20 minute air service to
downtown Vancouver and a ferry terminal which provides convenient access
to the mainland.
Nanaimo’s beautiful location, nestled between the ocean and the
mountains, provides residents and visitors with a diverse range of
recreational opportunities such as golfing, diving, boating, hiking and
biking. Some of Nanaimo’s
greatest assets are its parks. With
over 1100 hectares of parkland and protected open space, the city offers
residents and visitors many wonderful opportunities to enjoy the
magnificence of nature, combined with amenities added through development.
With the recent additions like the Parkway Trail, Cable Bay Trail
and the E&N Trail, Nanaimo and area residents are the envy of other
communities and have won awards for their development and unique
construction.
Our new 800 seat performing arts theatre has contributed to growth in our
dynamic arts, culture and entertainment sector.
A large addition to Woodgrove Centre in the City’s north end has
added to Nanaimo’s role as the Islands "shopping mecca".
We are very proud of our city. I
hope you find time to visit us and enjoy a taste of the refreshing and
relaxed atmosphere that fuels the imagination and fires the spirit of our
residents, tourists and business visitors alike.
If I can be of any assistance to you, please don’t hesitate to call my
office at 755-4400.
